HAPPIEST NATION

The World Happiness Report is an publication of the United Nation Sustainable Development Soultions Network. The Report ranks 156 countries by how happy their citizens perceive themselves to be.
The ranking are based on polling. And the Report primarily uses data from the Gallup World Poll. (Gallup company is an American analytics and advisory company based in Washington, D.C. Founded by George Gallup in 1935, which conducts opinion polls worldwide taking sample of 2,000 to 3,000).

HISTORY
In July 2011, the UN General Assembly adopted resolution 65/309 Happiness: Towards a Holistic Definition of Development inviting member countries to measure the happiness of their people and to use the data to help guide public policy. On April 2, 2012, this was followed by first UN High Level Meeting called Wellbeing and Happiness: Defining a New Economic Paradigm, which was chaired by UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon and PM Jigme Thinley of Bhutan, a nation that adopted gross national happiness instead of gross domestic product as their main development indicator. The First World Happiness Report was released on April 1, 2012.Since issued on an annual basis with the exception of 2014.
Keeping this variables/categories as measuring tool, the ranking is stated:
  • GDP per capita
  • Social Support
  • Health life expectancy
  • Freedom
  • Generosity
  • Absence of corruption
This time the report was released on 20th march, 2020. The reason behind releasing on this particular date is "March 20 was designated as the World Happiness Day by the UN General Assembly in 2012. For the first time ranked cities around the world by their subjective well-being and looked into how social, urban & natural environments combine to affect happiness. Measuring happiness at times like these might across as strange but the editors have opposing opinions.
