India's longest Motorable Bridge.
DOBRA-CHANTI BRIDGE
India's longest motorable single-lane bridge in Tehri. Inaugurated by CM Trivendra Singh Rawat on 9 November 2020 to mark the state's 20st foundation day.
- Location : Tehri Garhwal.
- Constructed on river Bhagirathi.
- Connecting Pratapnagar & Thauldhar.
- 440 metre long.
- Cost incurred Rs 150 crore.
- Work began in 2006 & was scheduled to be over by 2008, however factors such as corruption, changes in ruling party, inefficiency and faulty design etc made the delay.
- Design of the bridge done by a Korean Company.
The previous Bridge connecting Pratapnagar to main tehri was submerged in the waters of tehri lake during the construction of the Tehri Dam, forcing approx. 3 lakh population take longer route which is about 100 km.
Note : Earlier India's longest bridge used to be Byorung Bridge across the Siang river at Yingkiong in upper Siang district, Arunchal Pradesh. 300 metre long made with the cost of 48.43 crore.
More to know : Uttarakhand comprises of 13 districts & one of them is Tehri Garhwal, well known for India's tallest Dam "Tehri Dam" with height of 260 metre in river Bhagirathi. The river Bhagirathi meets Alaknanda in Devprayag & forms river Ganga. Bhagirathi rises in the Gangotri glacier near Gaumukh in Uttarkashi District & Alaknanda originates from Satopanth glacier in Chamoli District.
